Our Southwest hiking adventure continues on day 2 of exploring Nevada’s beautiful national/state parks. We visited Lake Mead and found a hiking trail which was the epitome of exactly what I was looking for when I decided to travel across the country to go hiking. My one wish on this trip was to hike slot canyons (which are narrow canyons, formed by the wear of water rushing through rock and are significantly deeper than it is wide) and in a remote location, off the beaten path. And this place was it! We were one of the 3 cars on the main path to getting to this area of the park and once we got to the slot canyons, we were the only 2 people there for the entire time, with no cell service, miles and miles away from civilization. What an inspiring adventure – we were literally one on one with nature! On our way to the slot canyons, we found an abandoned shooting range littered with huge truck tires and shot up cars. There was also a huge steep hill Ryan decided he wanted climb with no gear which surprisingly didn’t take him very long to scale. From there we entered a portion of the park which had the most amazing views, canyons, and hiking between tall mountainous rocks. It was an amazing experience and one of the most memorable parts of our trip. Bradley Chico said it best, “Highest of heights, I climb this mountain and feel one with the rock and grit and solitude echoing back at me” and that is exactly what this day was about. Enjoy a few of the photos we (and my handy dandy tripod) captured from Lake Mead, Nevada!

This is Ryan’s confused look after getting a little lost amongst the vastness.
As I’m photographing the landscapes, I turn around to see this…
POP goes the Ryan
That little speck that’s highlighted….that’s Ryan climbing this mountain surprisingly really fast!
Beautiful sunset to end an awesome day
