Oh, the Grand Canyon. If you’ve never been, it is truly a magical place full of history and rugged beauty. In a way, it’s almost mysterious as it leaves you wondering what has happened over the millions of years inside these canyons, the people who have traveled and lived here, and the persistence of a river cutting through these rocks over centuries. Neither words nor pictures can fully describe this God given wonder. One has to stand at the top of one of these mile high cliffs, or even hike down into the canyon, to really understand the magnitude and energy of this place.
We drove 4 hours one way from our Vegas hotel, leaving around 1pm to arrive at the south rim of the Grand Canyon right before sunset (we traveled in March so sunset was around 6pm) and stayed until after the sun fully set, through twilight hour and into darkness. It’s true when they say you will see the Grand Canyon lit up in all the colors of the rainbow as the sun flows and sets from east to west. The air is pure and your heart skips a beat as the sun makes it’s way over the horizon. What a treat to the senses! As we were taking selfies and cuddling looking out into the canyon – in awe of the land, I noticed a lonesome fellow taking in the beautiful sights nearby. As we began walking towards the man to leave the park, he mentioned how in love we looked and asked if we wanted him to take a photo of us, and in return I took a photo of him with the purple rock formations behind him and the moon shining above. After our exchange, he put his hands in prayer, bowed his head and calmly said ‘namaste’, which means “I bow to the divine in you”. That divine power is the Holy Spirit whose presence we definitely felt in us and through the nature around us that day.
Enjoy a few photos from the Grand Canyon, but please, if you’re able to, make a trip out there for yourself. It’s worth it!
